River Edw.

April 14th 2007

The river was clear and low; more like summer levels than April. The sun shone and grannom hatched off along with a few Large Dark Olives. I started fishing at 09:30 and by the time I had finished the lower section of just over 2 kilometers it was 15:30. How time flies when you are transported to another world. The fishing was delight and by the end of the day over 40 trout had been caught and released.

The alders and willows are just begining to burst into leaf. The blossoms of Wild Cherry trees glinted through the woods and anemones and celandines carpeted areas of the river bank. Grey Wagtails and Dippers were company as I moved slowly and carefully along the river. The lambs were playing in the fields, some so new that they still had their umbilical chords.

Most fish came to a small caddis nymph. In the clear water a drab pattern seemed to work better than anyhting with flash. But a few fish rose to a dry fly, intimating the sport to come in the next few weeks.
